Heatherton United’s run towards the SE 2 title hit a snag at home on Saturday when it lost 1-0 to title rival Mooroolbark SC. The Rd 14 result meant the visiting Barkers grabbed pole position from Heatherton.
The visitors played a direct, physical style of football aimed at getting the ball quickly to their two strikers. In contrast, Heatherton played a more technical game, trying to build and keep possession through the middle.

After 13 rounds Heatherton United become lucky to claim the top spot in State League 2 SE with a 2-1 away win at Seaford. Other results went our way and for the first time this season Heatherton is leading a group of eight teams, all with realistic chances of promotion to State League 1.

Old Melbournians-Heatherton 2-5, HT 0-1
In round 10 Heatherton travelled 20 km north to the Sir Robert Menzies Reserve in Malvern to face newly promoted Old Melbournians.
Heatherton never played there and it was the first league encounter between these two teams, so many travelling fans were surprised to see a soccer pitch on the hilly side off Toorak Rd.

Heatherton climbed to second spot after a narrow 2-1 win over Berwick City in Round 12.
Traditionally, games between these two teams always bring excitement and good football for die-hard supporters.
And they did not wait too long to see some real action. Just after two minutes of play, the referee pointed to penalty spot after Aziz Bayeh was brought down in the visitors’ box. However, Berwick’s keeper Morales managed to stop Arnel Zahirovic’s shot to bottom left corner.

In Round 9 of the Victorian State League 2 SE, Heatherton, in 6th place with 12 points, hosted a local rival Doveton, in fourth position with 14 points and best defensive record so far.
After three games without win (1 loss and two draws) Heatherton was desperate for 3 points to keep up pace with the league leaders. The squad was bolstered with the arrival of Edin Becirevic and Kemal Curan, two former players, who have added a much needed strength in defence.
