On a cold Friday night Heatherton travelled to the league leader Doncaster Rovers. In the past, games between these two teams always brought quality football and excitement, regardless of the current form or ladder position. Interestingly, Heatherton is the only team who took points off Doncaster this season, recording 1 win and 1 draw.

Due to groin injury the league’s top goal scorer Aziz Bayeh could not play, however, Heatherton was fortunate to have re-signed Ali Sanad and Anthony Selemidis. Ali played the whole game, while Anthony is expected start next week.

Doncaster took an early lead in 15 minute with a well placed shot outside the box. Heatherton responded immediately and equalised within a minute, when a Meldin Klehic's curled shot hit the top corner.  Ten minutes later Meldin scored his second with a glancing header and Arnes Muhic made it 3-1 on the half hour mark.

Doncaster reduced the deficit to 3-2 from a penalty in the dying minutes of first half.

Numerous spectators enjoyed watching a high tempo game in the second half as well. The host pushed forward and equalised in 65 minute, which proved to be the final goal for the night. In 80 minute the referee waved away Doncaster's call for a goal, when the ball was cleared off the goal line.

Heatherton also had its chances to snatch all three points. First one fell to Yusuf Kusdian, whose shot hit the keeper and the second one when an Edvin Trakosevic’s long range attempt was tipped to a corner.

Unfortunately, two of Heatherton players (Meldin Klehic and Zijo Bajraktarevic) suffered heavy injuries and were stretchered off the ground.

Next week Heatherton plays North Caulfield away at Caulfield Park, (Sunday August 11), while Doncaster will host Warragul United who are on a 9 game winning streak.
