Heatherton United battle out an entertaining two all draw

Heatherton travelled to Old Scotch on another clear sunny April day. Last year Heatherton won this fixture 1:0 but lost at home 3:0. Heatherton came into the game without Ryan Don Paul due to work commitments and injuries to Meldin Klehic and Zijad Bajrektarevic managing to be on the bench. On a positive note, Yusuf Kushdian and Resul Heco returned from injury playing their first game of the season.

Line up: Amil Sabitovic, Arnel Zahirovic, Kemo Curan, Resul Heco (Anthony Gaetano 55), Jasmin Limic, Mirza Pedic (Nihad Kadiric 70) Terjan Imerovski, Semaj Abbasmoi, Edvin Trakosevic (Hidajet Masinovic 80), Aziz Bayeh, Yusuf Kushdian.

Old Scotch: Ziel Zerner, Scott Vile, Nick Jewitt, Steven Carroll, Stuart McDonald (Stephen Whately 10 min), Wayne Dalton, Patrick Rechsteiner, Samuel Shearer, Jason Choi, Hugh Goad, Harrison Hackett (Liam McNally 75) .

The match began in thunderous fashion with Heatherton attacking from the onset and putting pressure on the Old Scotch defense. The pressure paid off early when Yusuf Kushdian snatched the ball off a defender and got through on goal to calmly place the ball in the back of the net. Just a few minutes later Yusuf once again had another great opportunity to double Heatherton’s lead but this time his shot went wide. Heatherton took control the game but couldn’t convert the many chances they had. In the 20th minute another chance went begging from a corner as Mirza’s header was cleared off the line.

After many missed opportunities by Heatherton strikers, Old Scotch took their chance with two quick goals, first being a free kick crossed into the box with the Old Scotch captain Nick Jewitt heading home with a powerful header and the second by Samuel Shearer finding the net after a scrappy goal mouth scramble. Heatherton weren’t done yet as Terjan Imerovski burst down the right side crossing the ball to the unmarked Aziz Bayeh whose shot was unstoppable, leveling the game at 2:2.

After the break, Aziz Bayeh came close to a second, the first time his lob hit the post, and the second time he found himself alone in front of goal but his shot was saved by the keeper. Anthony Gaetano came on and had a few chances that came close to finding the winner.

In the 70 minute the referee failed to award a penalty to Heatherton in what looked like a blatant handball, waving away the desperate pleas from the players.

With Heatherton not able to finish the game off Old Scotch kept pushing for a goal. Old Scotch had several good opportunities to find the winner firing wide from outside the box on two occasions. Overall Heatherton dominated the game, but the attackers failed to score the crucial winner.

This week Heatherton take on arch rivals Springvale City at home on Saturday night (reserve from 5, seniors form 7 PM). A big crowd is expected to watch a fierce derby that never disappoints.
