In Round 3 of the FFA Cup Heatherton United welcomed RMIT FC, a team which competes in the Victorian State League 4 North. After some initial pressure by Heatherton, visitors ventured forward and capitalised on a Heatherton’s defensive error to take a 1-0 lead in 15th minute.
However, the parity was soon restored from a penalty spot by Vlad Kosovac after Meldin Klehic was brought down in the area. Just before the half time break, RMIT FC was awarded a penalty too, after an Arnes Muhic’s accidental handball. Heatherton’s keeper Kadir Puric was beaten from the spot and visitors were in front again. In the second half Heatherton kept pushing forward, but could not find a way to beat Rory Keenan (RMIT keeper), who made a number of crucial saves and definitely was the man of the match. However, in 85th minute Keenan could not stop a deflected shot cross the goal-line. Referee Hary Milas soon blew the full-time whistle, taking the game into extra time.
In extra time Heatherton kept piling on more pressure, whilst RMIT opted for counterattacks. A turning point was a second yellow card to a RMIT defender, which was soon exploited by Heatherton stikers who scored 2 goals. A Meldin Klehic’s powerful shot outside the box found the back of the net in 108th minute, followed by a tap in by Ali Sanad in 115th minute to make it 4-2. 4 March 2018
