After four winless matches (three losses and a draw) Heatherton United found itself close to the relegation zone.

However, for a match against Peninsula Strikers, the squad was strengthened with Ali and Meldin returning to the starting eleven after serving a suspension for accumulating 5 yellow cards. Yusuf was also fit after picking up an injury two weeks ago.

The first half did not produce many clear-cut chances. Visitors came close to taking a lead, however Heatherton keeper, Yahya Demassi managed to stop a Peninsula forward’s attempt from close range.

DANDENONG-born Ajdin Hrustic could soon join the select company of locallyraised Socceroos, such as Vince Grella and Ljubo Milicevic.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder sprung to national attention last week, when Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou named him in the 30-man preliminary Socceroos squad ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia in early June.

Hrustic’s selection comes on the back of seven firstteam appearances this season for Dutch Eredivisie club Groningen, and a call-up to the Australian Under-23 training camp, where he impressed coach Josep Gombau.

Postecoglou commented on Hrustic’s selection in the preliminary squad: “Ajdin’s been on our radar for a while and this year’s been a bit of a breakthrough in Holland.
